Potential and Constraints on In Vitro Micropropagation of Juniperus drupacea Labill.

Juniperus drupacea Labill. (Cupressaceae) is a species with ecological and medicinal value. In Europe, it native only in southern Greece, listed as endangered. Due to its uniqueness, this study attempted, for the first time, an vitro propagation effort of Syrian juniper. Explants lateral shoot tips were surface-sterilized cultured on Murashige Skoog (MS) medium. The cultures subcultured MS, woody plant medium (WPM), Driver Kuniyaki Walnut (DKW) supplemented different concentrations 6-benzylaminopurine (BA), thidiazuron (TDZ), or meta-topolin [6-(3-hy-droxybenzylamino)purine] induction. derived from female trees exhibited 54.17% bud proliferation DKW 4 μM TDZ WPM BA. A total 62.50% male tree explants produced multiple shoots maximum average number per explant 1.17 both cases. length origin was 2.94 mm compared 2.69 trees. Overall, best growth regulator combination trees, traits under study, proven be + µM TDZ. Our experiments show that drupacea, conditions, shows recalcitrance rooting, applications IBA, NAA, IAA ineffective treatments. Although results low values, avant-garde provides foundation further research regeneration drupacea.
